Who makes Meal Picker?
Meal Picker is developed by Yves Durand. For questions about this information or your data, email support@recordpicker.app.
Local library and Apple account
Meal Picker requires no Meal Picker account, displays no advertising and uses no audience-tracking tools. The developer does not receive your library and does not operate a server to collect your recipes or preferences.
Recipes, edits, notes, photos, translations, menus, shopping, favourites, cooking dates, history and preferences are saved in the app’s files. Language is a local setting. Ingredient exclusions and allergen declarations may reveal personal preferences; analysis runs on the device.
When your iCloud account is available, synchronisation uses your private CloudKit database at Apple to keep library data available on your devices. This is separate from sharing with other people. iCloud and system backups follow your Apple account’s settings and terms. The local library remains usable when iCloud is unavailable.
Seasonal region
You choose the seasonal country and area manually. Meal Picker neither requests nor uses your geographical location.
In stock
Products, quantities, Pantry or Fridge sections and stock movement dates are stored with your inventory. Barcode lookup sends only the barcode to Open Food Facts. On iPhone and iPad, scanning uses the camera on the device; camera images are never sent. Available names, package quantities and photographs are offered for review. Photos are downloaded from Open Food Facts and stored as thumbnails with their source and CC BY-SA licence. The provider receives normal connection information, including the IP address. Your entire inventory is not sent.
Images, paste and translation
The app receives images you explicitly choose in Photos or Files, or paste. The system picker does not grant Meal Picker general access to your photo library. A reduced JPEG copy is saved with the recipe without the original GPS metadata; the original remains unchanged.
Image searches open outside Meal Picker. To add an image, return to the app and use Photos, Files or paste. This public edition does not download images directly from a web provider.
Translation uses Apple Translation on the device. Apple may download language models. Original text and applied translations are saved in the library; synchronised data follows the iCloud behaviour described above.
Searches, sources and videos
In the public edition, metadata and image searches, sources and videos open in your browser or another app after your action. Meal Picker uses no embedded web view or remote player for these features and makes no direct API requests to DuckDuckGo, Google, Wikimedia Commons or Bring!
A search may include the title you chose. The service you open may receive that search, your IP address and the usual browser or app information. Its cookies and data retention follow its own settings and privacy policies. Opening a link does not automatically send your entire library.
Information you subsequently add to a recipe, with its sources and credits, stays in your library and follows the private sync described above.
Bring!, clipboard and sharing
Meal Picker lets you copy ingredients or share them through the system interface, then open Bring! externally using a generic link. You add or paste the items in Bring! The app does not automatically send a recipe URL, serving sizes or product details to the Bring! API or include them in its opening link.
Copying puts the chosen text on the clipboard. Sharing passes content to the destination you choose; information received there follows that destination’s rules. Meal Picker does not read your Bring! account or changes to its lists. Bring! applies its own privacy policy.
Sharing recipes and backing up your data
You can select one or more recipes to send in a .mealpicker file. It keeps ingredients, methods, photos, sources, credits, translations and links between preparations, including manually fixed translated titles. Linked preparations are included initially; you can disable this option. Personal notes are excluded initially and included only if you request them. Settings, favourites, menus, shopping, histories, cooking status and dates are excluded. Deleted recipes are not exported.
You choose where to save the file and who receives it. Photos and any notes you choose to include may contain personal information: review them before sharing. The recipient receives an independent copy they can keep or share again. Import adds new recipes; recipes recognised as already present are kept intact, including their edits, photos, notes and translations. This exchange does not link Apple accounts or set up synchronisation between people.
Export my data is a separate action for a complete personal backup. That file may contain recipes, photos, credits, notes, preferences, favourites, menus, shopping and history. It is not a recipe collection for sharing and cannot be loaded using Import recipes. Restoring a complete backup from a file is not offered in this version.
Reminders and Calendar
Add to Reminders is available even without a date. Only an explicit Add or Update action creates or updates an external item with the recipe title, link and a due date if one is scheduled.
Reminders requests Apple’s system permission; the app looks up reminders it previously created and does not browse your other lists to build a profile. Calendar uses Apple’s confirmation interface, or an .ics file on Mac, without Meal Picker reading your calendars. These items may sync through the associated account. Changing or deleting the recipe in Meal Picker does not automatically change those external items.
Retention and your controls
You can edit saved information and remove a recipe from the library. In the current version, recipe deletion is reversible: the recipe remains in Deleted Recipes. This action therefore does not permanently erase its data.
Export my data creates a complete backup; Export recipes creates the shareable collection described above. Exported copies, Reminders or Calendar items and information sent to third-party services remain under your control at those destinations; deleting them in Meal Picker does not automatically erase them elsewhere.
Local data is retained while the app or its data remains on the device. iCloud copies and Apple backups follow account and system settings. You can manage Apple storage and permissions in system settings. The developer cannot access your private library or delete it remotely.
Support and updates
The support form prepares an email containing your message and the Meal Picker and system versions. You can edit it and choose whether to send it using your email app. Recipes, preferences and attachments are not automatically included. If you send the email, its contents and your reply address are received to handle your request; please avoid unnecessary sensitive attachments.
This information may change as app features evolve. The date above indicates the latest revision of this page.
Included, imported and shared content
The public edition includes only two original stuffing recipes by Yves and their translations. Recipes and illustrations from his private library are not bundled in the app.
You are responsible for content you import or share and the necessary permissions, including for third-party text and photos. Keeping a source or credit does not grant republication rights. Check the content and rights before sending a file.
Apple trial and purchases
Apple processes purchases. Meal Picker locally verifies signed Apple transactions for the trial start date, permanent unlock and any revocation. The app does not receive your payment card details. No additional developer account is required and no transaction is sent to a developer server.
